Sankranthi had been a competing arena for movies since decades in the Telugu film industry. Sankranthi being a very important festival in the southern parts of the country, movie makers are always keen to make cash out of the festive mood of the season. As usual, there were quite a few films that competed for their share in this Sankranthi. Interestingly, there was not even a single high-budget film released this Sankranthi and the competition was completely among the smaller movies. Among them, Arundathi was least expected to make it to the top but this is what happened.

After movies like Mental Krishna and Sashirakha Parniayam disappointing at the box office, Maska seemed to be the  winner this year but that weas only till Arundhathi arrived. Arundhati had been receiving extremely positive reviews and is also considered by some, as one of the best movies, Tollywood has ever made. This movie banked on the graphic effects and the quality of these graphic works equalled those seen in some of the top notch Hollywood flicks. Not just the graphics but the movie boasts of a taut plot with unexpected twists which keep the audience on his feet through out the movie.

Now, it is more than clear that this years blockbuster is Arundhati and is almost impossible for any other movie to surpass Arundhati. A word of caution! Do not go for the pirated prints, at least for this movie. The movie is to be seen for the graphics and sound effects and thus should be seen in a good theater.

Sumanth hails from one of the most successful families in the Tollywood. He is the grand son of veteran actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao. Unfortunately, he could not keep up to the reputation of his family as he could not deliver a single hit barring Satyam. He has been in the industry for almost a decade now and has nine movies to his credit, but not a single successful venture.

Sumanth decided to take a break before he comes out with his next movie. He seems to determined to make it big this time and has done some ground work before starting off with a new one. His next movie is named ‘Boni’ and the film is completed and due for release. For unknown reasons, the release of the movie is being delayed, though the production is complete.

This movie is being produced by famous music director, Ramana Gogula who started his own production house, ‘Green Mangoes’. Lets wish all thebest for Sumanth and Ramana.

Ram Charan Teja created wonders with his debut film Chirutha which was very successful at the box office. His second movie, yet to be named, had been attracting a lot of attention since then, and is expected to beat the first one. The movie is being directed SS Rajamouli and is based on the concept of re-incarnations.

However, the huge attention from the public has caused a few hitches in the production phase for this film. As the movie is being shot in Rajasthan, a few clips were released and put up in YouTube which shocked the entire film unit. These are not videos shot using some ‘cell camera’ but are actual footages shot by the crew. The film unit deliberately put this aside and did not make it a big issue.

Now, after the shoot was completed, during the editing phase, it was reported that a 500 foot long reel was missing when the entire reel was in transit. This again irked the film unit as it is evident in both the cases that someone within the crew is resorting to this. The lost reel can be reshot in two hours according to the director. However, this time the crew has decided to take a serious step and has registered a missing complaint with the police who are investigating into the incident.

Venu Thottempudi who made his debut into Tollywood with the film ‘Swayamvaram’, had a few successes in the initial stages of his career but could not deliver any hits in the later stages. Off late, he never even had a decent entry at the box office and all his films turned out to be disasters. This tallest hero of Tollywood has now taken some time before venturing into another project to analyze what is going wrong with his films.

The ‘tall hero’ as now decided to team up with the ‘Real hero’ to taste the success. Wondering who this real hero is? It is none other than the Kannad Superstar Upendra who has a decent following in the Telugu film industry. Off late, Upendra also lost his charm and had many flops in the Kannad Industry. So these two guys who are facing a slump in their career decided to team up and work together and it is learnt from reliable sources that Upendra has come up with a novel story and is very confident that this movie would give a break to their career.

Do you remember the hot beauty Neha Sharma with sexy looks who made her debut into the Telugu Film industry with the movie ‘Chirutha’ in which she was paired opposite Charan Tej. Though the movie was a huge success, Neha was no where seen in the industry. It is not because she was not offered any movie, but because she was very picky about her projects. A few days back it was reported that she is being roped in for VV Vinayak’s next project and will be paired against Jr. NTR. However, this did not finalize and Vinayak chose a different girl.

Finally Neha has signed a film in which she will act opposite Varun Sandesh (HappyDays fame). Varun Sandesh is acting in a film being directed by Sandeep Gunnam which is a remake of a Tamil film called Polladhavan and which is being produced by Gemini Kiran. The search for the heroine of this movie ended at Neha Sharma it has been officially announced that Neha Sharma has signed this movie.

Manchu Vishuvardhan Babu was married a few months back and also celebrated his birthday two  months back. Being newly wed, he took a considerably long break from the movies and is currently shooting for a film named ‘Saleem’.

This movie is being shot in certain locations in Thailand and this being an action film, certain fight sequences are being shot in Thailand. Both Vishnu and Manoj are known to be reluctant to use dupes in the action stunts and in this line, Vishnu had decided to perform a stunt where in he needs to jump from a car onto a moving bike.

Unfortunately things went wrong and the entire stunt setup ended up as a major accident. It is said that Vishnu was too lucky to have escaped from a major accident with very minor injuries. However, the other stunt masters who participated in this stunt are very badly injured and some of them are in a ‘critical’ state. Hope all the stunt masters recover soon!

Allari Naresh is the only male lead in Tollywood who dares to make close to five films per year and yet have a high success rate. His movies are always outright comedy entertainers and are made with a low budget. Himself and his father had been following a different business plan of releasing more low budget films, rather than investing on a single venture. In this line, Naresh’s films always had a budget of less than two crore.

Naresh is opening the new year with ‘Fitting Master’ to be released for Sankranthi. However, this movie is not just any other comedy flick from Naresh, but is a high budget film. His father EVV who is also the director of this movie had invested four crore rupees in this project. There were a few scenes shot abroad and also a strong casting in the film which increased the budget to four crore. EVV and Naresh are confident that this movie will be more successful than their previous films and would collect all the money in no time.

The role of Naresh in this movie is of a ‘fitting master’ who deliberately ignites hostility among people, but for a good cause. This is very much in the lines of the Hindu mythological character ‘Narada’ who created hostility for a good cause. Let us see how Naresh will fare in this Sankranthi.

On the first day in 2009, a movie named ‘Mental Krishna’ hit the theaters. Within days, this movie has broken all the previous records and stood as the worst movie ever made in the history of Telugu Cinema. There was no confusion or hesitation among reviewers to rate this movie the lowest and some sites like Cinegoer.com has opted out of giving a rating to this flick.

This movie is directed by Posani Murali who also played the male lead in the film. Unfortunately, the female lead was played by Satya Krishna, who had a good image till date. It is surprising as to how she accept a movie of this standard. The movie is filled with the perversions of Posani and has gone beyond any imaginations. Truly, the movie justified its title in being completely insane. The movie is so rocking that people just walked away from the theaters in the intermission!

Better stay away from it.

Do you know that there was a movie by the name ‘Sammakka Saarakka Mahatyam’ released in the month of December. Never mind, hardly any one knew about this film. It is not just another movie with a debutante but had Uday as the protagonist. Uday is the son of popular politician turned comedy actor Babu Mohan. It was reported that Babu Mohan has spent a considerable amount on this venture and was taken aback by its miserable performance at the box office.

Not just the movie, but Uday also could not get any positive reviews for his performance. Though he was credited for the fight sequences, his acting skills in the movie were pathetic and he has a long way to go before he can play as a protagonist in a movie.

There were also some bickering between the distributors and Babu Mohan on financial matters, each claiming that they lost money because of the other.

Actor Rajasekhar hardly had any hit films to his credit in the past ten years, save ‘Evadaithe Naakenti’. He sincerely believes that the reason for his repeated failures lies in the script writers and directors of his previous films. So he started a movie named ‘Satyameva Jayathe’ in which he donned the role of a strict police officer. He prepared the script and screenplay for this film himself and his wife Jeevitha is directing this venture. However, this couple is careful enough not to invest their own money and thus started this film under different producers.

Given the ’success spree’ of Rajasekhar, the production house withdrew from the project abruptly and this Rajasekhar finished the production with the help of certain financiers. The movie is slated to release on the 14th of January. However, the financiers issued an ultimatum to clear all the debts before Jan 9th if the film is to be released on Jan 14th. The financiers are expecting this film to fail at the box office and this not willing to wait till the movie releases and collects money. So, now Rajasekhar is in search of some financial help to clear his debts and release the film.
